Being in the position where it was needed — not so much.
Getting a better start will be a big focus for the Highlanders as they face the Blues at Eden Park on Sunday.
The side is coming off a brilliant second half which took it to a 39-23 win over the Chiefs last week.
But it is aware it cannot rely on that escape act too often.
It trailed 20-11 at halftime, a full-field intercept try to Jona Nareki its only time crossing the whitewash.
A week earlier, the Highlanders made a similarly slow start and trailed 14-0 early on in a loss to the Crusaders.
Assistant coach Clarke Dermody said the side was putting the onus on its players to get themselves ready to go from the opening whistle.
"We’ve put it on individuals to be fair, around preparation making sure we’re ready to start the game at the right intensity," he said.
"It was the same against the Crusaders. We didn’t execute and we were points down after 20 minutes.
"So not an ideal situation, awesome character to come back from that, but we don’t want to be there against the Blues."
The Blues were coming off a bye, although notched an impressive 31-16 win over the Hurricanes in the first round.
They are team with plenty of firepower out wide and a strong forward pack that will look to overpower teams.
That was in the forefront of the Highlanders’ minds and they would look to counter it by playing the open game that was so successful last week.
"It’s quite interesting," Dermody said.
"It’s like preparing for a South African team without the South Africans in the competition.
"They’re a massive pack, a lot of kicking.
"So obviously our challenge is to match them up front and then not get drawn into that game.
"They want to be walking from set piece to set piece so we’ll try to speed the game up."
The side has called in Hawke’s Bay prop Namatahi Waa for the week to replace the injured Daniel Lienert-Brown.
Lienert-Brown fractured his left forearm during last Friday’s game and is expected to be sidelined through to the end of April.
Meanwhile, Japanese loose forward Kazuki Himeno will play for the Bravehearts this weekend in Pleasant Point, as he works towards his Highlanders debut.
