Expect to see increased police patrols, as officers target a zero road toll this Queens Birthday weekend.
As part of "Operation 5", police will be out on the roads in force, focusing on speed, alcohol, fatigue, driver inattention and seat belts.
Sergeant Chris McLellan, of Dunedin, said police wanted a repeat of last year's Queens Birthday weekend zero toll.
The speed tolerance for motorists this weekend would be reduced to 4kmh over the posted limit, he said Staff from various police teams, including road police, general duties staff and commercial vehicle staff, would be involved with Operation 5, which was a partnership between the police, Dunedin City Council, ACC, NZTA and Students Against Drunk Driving.
Last year, 70 Dunedin-Clutha staff stopped 5000 motorists, with major checkpoints at Waikouaiti and Milton and two drivers processed for drink-driving offences.
