Saturday night's concert for the St Peter's Church organ restoration fund raised almost $1000.

The concert, "From Bach to Gershwin: a Medley of Musical Delights", was attended by about 40 people and showed off the talents of soprano Judy Bellingham, flautist Fiona Pickering and pianist/organist Donald Cullington.

The Rt Rev Dr David Coles said, although the cold might have kept some people away, the concert was "thoroughly enjoyed" by those present.

All three musicians had provided their services for free, so there were "no deductions" from the money raised.

After the opening piece, Mr Cullington announced the concert was also "a 75th anniversary celebration of several people and things", including King George VI's 1937 coronation and his own upcoming 75th birthday.

Bishop Coles said the historic and unique organ would cost around $100,000 to restore.

"They raised $50,000 back in 1992, when restoration was started, and they did a partial restoration.

In August the Queenstown Community Choir will give a concert, with all proceeds going towards restoration of the organ.
