Racing: Dalgety-trained Onlyforyou favourite for Jewels

Onlyforyou, winner of the $70,000 Sires' Stakes Championship at Alexandra Park last Friday, is a $3.50 favourite for the two-year-old pacing filly division of the Harness Jewels at Cambridge on June 2.

Onlyforyou is the top stake earner among the 2yr-old fillies this season with $117,635.

Onlyforyou was a $35,000 purchase by West Melton trainer Cran Dalgety at the Australasian Classic yearling sale when she was offered by Chris and Tina Barlow, who operate Highfields Bloodstock at Albany.

David and Barbara Murray, of Mosgiel, took a share in Onlyforyou after Dalgety advertised the daughter of Art Major-Destiny for syndication in the New Zealand Harness Racing Weekly. The other owners of Onlyforyou are Tony Henderson, of Temuka, the Southern Men syndicate and the Tenarewho syndicate.

The Southern Men syndicate raced Wotavugot from the Dalgety stable. He was sold to Australia after winning seven races.

David Murray has bred and raced several horses. He bred Trident in partnership with the late Peter Cowan. They sold sold Trident as a yearling. The son of Out To Win-Witchlight won seven races including the 1986 New Zealand Messenger when trained by Brian O'Meara.

Murray and Cowan raced Kintyre (Good Chase-Witchlight) who won four races when trained by Andy Laidlaw at Tisbury. Kintyre won a heat of the New Zealand Standardbred Sires' Produce Stakes at Addington as a 2yr-old in 1978.

Onlyforyou is the first foal of Destiny, an unraced mare by Presidential Ball. She is a half-sister to In The Force, Indulge and The Magic. In The Force won 14 races in Perth including the 2009 West Australian Derby.

• Bettor Cover Lover, at $1.40, is the shortest-priced favourite in the opening markets with the New Zealand TAB for theHarness Jewels, The New Zealand Herald reports.

Bettor Cover Lover heads the market for the 4yr-old pacing mares.

Escapee is at $1.50 for the 3yr-old trotters division.

The markets will close at the start of each harness meeting and open after the last race.

Racing over the next 11 days will confirm the 12 for each race, with the cutoff day for the stakes-based qualification being May 20.
