Racing: White Socks appeals

White Socks could give Roxburgh trainers Geoff and Jude Knight a welcome-home present with further success at Forbury Park tonight.

The Knights returned home yesterday after nine days holidaying in Rarotonga.

In their absence, White Socks won at Gore last Saturday in the care of their stablehand sisters Cass and Maruia Parker.

The Courage Under Fire 6yr-old has fashioned a splendid record recording five wins and three placings from 18 starts.

He could face stern opposition from horses driven by the Dunn brothers, John and Dexter.

John is driving Surfin Cees, who was second to White Socks at Gore in the hands of Brent Barclay. The Christian Cullen 5yr-old has had three wins and five placings from 17 starts.

Dexter replaces John on Bettor Move It, who after a run of placings weakened to fifth at his last start at Ascot Park on April 22.

Another who is to take a break away from the southern winter is reinsman Brent Barclay who is due to spend three months working for Tamborine (Queensland) trainer Grant Dixon.

Disqualified trainer Tim Butt will remain on the sidelines after not being granted a stay of proceedings pending an appeal.

Butt was disqualified for six months last week for presenting Raglan to run in the Miracle Mile in November with arsenic in the system of the horse.

He has appealed both the verdict and sentence and sought a stay of proceedings from the New South Wales Racing Appeals Tribunal pending the appeal.

That was turned down yesterday so Butt's brother Anthony will remain in charge of Premier Stables until at least the appeal is heard.
