A quick response by a teenage occupant of a Clyde home and by the fire crews prevented a kitchen fire from spreading to the rest of the house, Clyde Chief Fire Officer Richard Davidson said last night.
Crews from Clyde and Alexandra attended the fire, which was believed to have started near an oven.
"It was a very good save, thanks to a quick call from the girl in the house and a quick response from the brigades," Mr Davidson said.
The 17-year-old who made the emergency call had done everything correctly.
The cause of the fire was still being investigated but the damage was confined to the area around the oven, aside from some smoke damage in the lounge, he said.
It was the first fire call for new Clyde brigade recruit Chloe McDonald-Dowling (22), who completed her recruit course last month.
She was one of two firefighters who wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.
