Thompson, through his new bloodstock company, Thompson Bloodstock, races Tandias Bromac, winner of the Sires' Stakes heat for 2yr-old fillies at Forbury Park on Thursday night.
He is in the ownership of Star Of Van Gogh, The Fiery Ginga, Chancellor Cullen and Living The Dream, all engaged at Addington tonight.
Star Of Van Gogh, first-up winner of a heat of the Young Guns series at Alexandra Park in February, is in a heat of the Sires' Stakes for 3yr-old colts and geldings.
Living The Dream was a winner at Addington two starts back and finished third there last week. Chancellor Cullen was fourth at Addington last week.
The Fiery Ginga is in the New Zealand Trotting Championship.
Tandias Bromac is trained by Ken Barron, who prepares Star Of Van Gogh and Chancellor Cullen (five wins).
Thompson paid $67,500 for Tandias Bromac at the premier yearling sale last year when she was lot one offered by Bromac Lodge operated by Bob McArdle.
"I have always bought colts but I was looking for a filly as a possible foundation mare for the company," Thompson said.
"I liked her as she was a half-sister to Tatijana Bromac, a top filly last season."
Thompson turned down a big offer for Tandias Bromac (by Art Major) after she beat the highly regarded Allura in her first trial at Motukarara in December.
Tandias Bromac ran third at her first start but she was pulled up at her second start after suffering atrial fibrillation.
"She just needed to get her confidence back after that," Thompson said.
• Hip Hop Anvil set a track record for 2700m of 3.21.4 (2.00.1 mile rate) when he won the $25,000 Forbury Park Championship for 4 and 5yr-olds.
Hip Hop Anvil led over the last 1600m in the hands of Dexter Dunn and won by a length and three-quarters after sprinting his last 800m in 56.7.
He is trained by Cran Dalgety and raced by Cran's wife, Chrissie and Small Car World Ltd operated by Graham Beirne, of Christchurch.
Hip Hop Anvil bettered the track record of 3.22.8 set by the Dalgety-trained Dustin Bromac in 2010.
Beirne was the co-owner of Anvil Lad, winner of the corresponding race in 1992 when it was restricted to 4yr-olds. Anvil Lad was trained at Motukarara by Murray Edmonds and was driven by Mike De Filippi.
Hip Hop Anvil, the winner of 10 races and $116,745 in stakes, was bred by Sheldon Murtha.
Dalgety bought the son of Mach Three and Tragically Hip for $28,000 at the 2008 premier yearling sale.
Excuse Maker recorded his seventh win since he began racing 10 months ago with a typical fast finish. Trained by Phil Burrows at Fernside, the McArdle 4yr-old has been driven in six of his wins by junior driver Brett Thomas.
Excuse Maker had his maiden win at Forbury Park in July at his second start.
Burrows won the $25,000 Two-Year-Old Fillies Graduette at Cambridge on Thursday night with Pacific Rapture. The daughter of Bettor's Delight and Seamoon was bred by Tuapeka Lodge, Lawrence. She was bought for $7500 by Mike and Sue McGuire, of Rakaia at the premier yearling sale last year. The McGuires have the 3yr-old trotting filly Pretty Sunday in the Burrows stable. They have won races with Rosemma, Sonofanearl and The Real McGuire from the stable of John Hay this season.
Sonofanearl, the winner of seven races, is now in the Melbourne stable of Bob Butt, who has leased a half share in the gelding.
Rosemma is in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes tonight.
Trainer Jamie Gameson won three races on a programme for the first time when he was successful with Rebateable and the trotters Dream Defence and Topnotch Lyn on Thursday.
