Crash could have been much worse

A pair of customers left a Dunedin motorcycle shop just moments before a car ploughed through its front door.

Police were called to MCR Motorcycle Replacements in Crawford St at 9.41am yesterday after a car crashed through the front of the shop.

A police spokeswoman said the driver might have suffered a medical event.

A St John spokesman said one person was assessed and treated at the scene for minor injuries.

If the incident had happened a few minutes earlier, the outcome could have been much worse, MCR parts manager Dave Neilson said.

"There’s been nicer starts to the day, but the main thing was that she wasn’t hurt, " he said.

"I’ve got a bike squashed and a door smashed."

Two customers had just walked out of the shop before the incident happened.

"If anybody had been sitting on any of those bikes, they would have been pretty badly squashed. Even standing in front of the door would have been pretty horrendous."

Builders arrived yesterday afternoon to help secure the shopfront.
