It's last chance to dance on the fringe of society this weekend.
The 2012 Dunedin Fringe Festival puts on the hair rollers and cold cream tomorrow after an 11-day rampage through everything that is sensible and grown up. But the toys won't be packed away till tomorrow and there is plenty of playtime left.
There will be cameos from Footnote, Cabaret Botanica and Milly Wonka and The Burlesque Factory in the Octagon at midday today, before the Footnote dancers respond to works of art around the Dunedin Public Art Gallery at 1pm.
Footnote then pulls on the dancing shoes for the final time at 7.30pm in Made in New Zealand at the Mary Hopewell Theatre.
"We're a bit nervous about that one, because the [Hyde St] keg party is on just across the road," director Deidre Tarrant told me yesterday.
"There was a big street party on last time we were here, too. One of our dancers cut his foot on broken glass and we had to take him to the hospital. The waiting room was full of drunk people. It was a long night."
Auckland dance troupe Faux Pas had the cutlery rattling and water glasses wobbling in their impromptu performance at Ironic Cafe yesterday.
"It's been interesting to see people's reactions and they certainly have been interested," choreographer Natalie Clark said yesterday.
"At the start, I think they're not sure if we're just very drunk, which is great, because we wanted people not to be sure what was happening. We wanted to break the etiquette of dining and take performance out into the public eye.
Especially to people who might not usually go to Fringe events."
The Fringe moves to Northeast Valley tonight for the valley showcase of musicians, actors, dancers and artists, Cabaret Botanica or The Morality of Plants, at 6pm and 9pm in St Martins Hall.
Just down the road, Chingford Park will be alight tonight when a match is put to the family-oriented theatre, fire, dance and music production The Fire of Life: a Journey to the Underworld and Back.
There's also plenty of drama tonight, with theatre and video dancework Girl with a Movie Camera taking to the Fortune main stage, Pink Spider Man at the Globe Theatre and Wom!n in my Life at Allen Hall.
Later, the outrageously out Stanley Manthyng and DJ Stevolicious manhandle the final Festival Club at Ironic Cafe from 10 tonight, supported by Fuchsia Gash.
