Man shot with Taser dies in Sydney

A man has died in Sydney's CBD after police shot him with a Taser stun gun.

Officers had identified the man as a suspect following a robbery in The Rocks area of the city about 5.30am (AEDT) on Sunday.

They confronted him a short time later in Pitt Street and attempted to arrest him.

The man resisted and police used capsicum spray and a Taser to try and subdue him.

He stopped breathing and could not be revived despite efforts by police and paramedics.

The State Crime Command Homicide Squad has launched a critical incident investigation.

An area of Pitt Street, between Liverpool and Bathurst streets, has been sealed off and remains a crime scene.
