The Postman Always Rings Twice, the film noir starring Lana Turner, on May 1 launches the season of Hollywood classics, world cinema rarities and New Zealand favourites.
Highlights include director Wes Anderson's breakthrough hit Rushmore, director Geoff Murphy's Utu and Solaris, Russia's influential answer to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The closing date for the second annual showcase of amateur film-makers is April 30. The Queenstown-themed short films will be presented on September 25.
In a new move for the society this year, the season takes a break for two Tuesdays for the school holidays in July and two Tuesdays for the school holidays in October. The films will be presented on Tuesday evenings until November 13.
Full annual membership costs $120, or less than $5 per film.
Half-year membership for 12 consecutive screenings costs $70 and viewing any three films costs $30.
