The Rugby World Cup has come down in Kurow, but the memory lingers on.

Michael Sargeant (right) helps the replica cup's designer and creator Roger Slee (left) hoist the cup from the hay bale display the town put up in August.

The clean-up, started on Wednesday, was completed yesterday.

A team of workers dismantled the display, which paid tribute to home town hero All Black captain Richie McCaw.

One of the aims of the display was to encourage visitors for the Rugby World Cup to stop in the town, but it remained over Christmas after the All Blacks won the trophy.

Usually, the town has the Hay Family on the site at the junction of State Highways 82 and 83 during the Christmas-New Year holidays.
