President June Driver said it was wonderful to have Musical Theatre Dunedin’s rooms full of singing and dancing once more, as preparations for the What’s on the Goggle-Box show get into full swing.
"It has been an interesting 90th year for the society, so we are excited to bring a light-hearted, fun, action-packed and fast-moving show to our audiences," Mrs Driver said.
"And on top of an entertaining show, people will also get a wonderful three-course meal."
Scheduled to run from August 13-22, the What’s on the Goggle-Box theatre restaurant celebrates many of the great television theme tunes and advertising jingles which have featured on our screens since the earliest days of TV in New Zealand.
Led by the "fantastic" creative team of director Helen Horsnel, musical director Beau-Daniel Loumeau, and choreographer Emma Donaldson, the show will feature a 30-strong cast and a five-piece band, supported by stagehands, and food servers.
"The What’s on the Goggle-Box show is full of company numbers, group items and solos with many costume and wig changes," Mrs Driver said.
"The fun will be guessing who is performing your favourite TV theme.
"There will be a lot of toe-tapping and sing-along moments. It will be a chance to have a great night out and a really good laugh."
Musical Theatre Dunedin had been working towards a production of Les Miserables, but this had been postponed until 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
