An Otaki postman man who allegedly burned hundreds of council rate invoices he was supposed to deliver is facing court action.
The man, a sub-contractor of a locally owned postal company, allegedly did not deliver the rates notices and may have burned the the mail when he became aware that suspicions had been raised, Kapiti Coast District Council finance manager Warwick Read said today.
"Earlier this week we became suspicious because many people in the Otaki Central area had not received their rates invoices and we were receiving calls about it."
He said the postal company told the council this afternoon a man had been charged.
Ratepayers would receive a replacement rates bill early next week.
