Award for work after quake

Canterbury District Health Board chief executive David Meates has been awarded the New Zealand Medical Association's highest honour for his work leading the board in the aftermath of February's earthquake.

NZMA chairman Dr Paul Ockelford said Mr Meates had demonstrated " exemplary leadership in a time of uncertainty and upheaval".

The NZMA chairman's award goes to an individual or organisation making a substantial contribution to the health of New Zealanders. Mr Meates understood the effectiveness of a collective, co-ordinated approach to healthcare delivery at a challenging time, Dr Ockelford said.
