Education Minister Chris Hipkins confirmed Gigi Hollyer, of Queenstown, had been appointed as the Hanley’s Farm Primary School establishment board chairwoman.
She would be joined by former Queenstown Lakes mayor and district councillor Vanessa van Uden, lawyer Dale Lloyd, Amanda Robinson, a member of the New Zealand Plunket Society national advisory group and staff representative on Wakatipu High School’s relocation project team, and Beststart Educare’s South Island regional services manager Judith Soper.
All had previous board of trustee experience.
The school was expected to open in 2022 and Mr Hipkins said the "very experienced group" had already met several times and was considering the school’s design and vision.
"I know they’re keen to get out and about and discuss with the community what is needed for this new school, and how to best reflect this in the vision and values.
The school was initially being planned for up to 600 pupils in years 1 to 8, but there would be "capacity to expand", he said.
In 2018 the Ministry of Education agreed to spent $7million on the 3.03ha site within the Hanley’s Farm residential development, near Jacks Point, and the school was officially approved in December.
A new early childhood centre, with intended capacity to cater for up to 50 children, has also been proposed for the area.
