Big rush expected for "Big Night In" tickets

A stampede for tickets to the Otago Daily Times "Big Night In" 150th anniversary community concert on November 12 is expected to start next week.

"We've been inundated with inquiries, so we wanted to release ticket information as early as possible," ODT circulation manager James Smith said yesterday.

"Tickets are going to be limited, so people will have to act quickly to be sure of their seats."

Ballot forms for preferential tickets for ODT subscribers will be included in full-page advertisements in the Otago Daily Times on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday next week.

Subscribers will be allowed a maximum of six tickets each. The ballot will be drawn on October 27 and general public tickets will be available from November 1.

Public tickets will be available at Forsyth Barr Stadium and ODT offices in Wanaka, Queenstown, Alexandra, Balclutha, Oamaru and Mosgiel.

Next week's advertisements would also include details of the Deloitte "Win a Wish" competition, Mr Smith said.

"Big Night In" creative producer Doug Kamo said the atmosphere at rehearsals had been getting more excited as the date neared.

"We're about 90% of the way through the show's content, now. We've only got to add the regional artists and then the national artists will arrive the week of the concert," he said yesterday.

"It's been a really exciting journey, from the auditions around the regions to where we are now. The OD Glee and ensemble came together this week, after rehearsing separately, and seeing them together was just amazing."

The November 12 concert features a host of national artists, including Tina Cross, Jackie Clarke, Ainslie Allen and Chris Fennessy, with the cream of local and regional Otago talent.

The "Big Night In" celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Otago Daily Times and is being supported by the Dunedin City Council as the opening community concert in the new stadium.

Tickets are free and gold-coin donations will be accepted at the gate for KidsCan and Lions.

Gates will open at 3pm, with the pre-show from 4:30pm and the main show starting at 7pm.
