A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said Fenz was called at 12.55am to reports of fire on the hillside in Harington Point.
The Portobello Volunteer Fire Brigade attended the call and found several areas of gorse on fire on the lower side of Harington Point Rd.
Firefighters called for back-up from St Kilda and Wakari to help extinguish the blaze.
