Affordable jazz

Queenstown JazzFest has attracted a feast of artists for affordable prices for five days of entertainment around Labour Weekend.

Concert ticket prices begin at $20 for the Tribute Night with a top price of $70 for Fat Freddy's Drop, which also includes support act Matthew Halsall, from the UK.

In addition, the weekend will feature a programme of free gigs.

Queenstown JazzFest spokesperson Luke Baldock said in keeping with the spirit of previous festivals, the organisers had tried to ensure the event remained accessible from a price perspective.

"We've got an amazing line up of top-flight acts this year and we've endeavoured to keep the prices of the ticketed events as low as we possibly could," Mr Baldock said.

The Skyline brunch featuring the Craig Naughton Quartet represented particularly good value, Mr Baldock said.

He also tipped the ticketed dinner concerts at Skycity Queenstown and Threesixty as ones not to be missed.

A sell-out is predicted for both Fat Freddy's and the Tribute Night featuring young local talent Emily Burns, Max Gunn and Hertzog Burger.
