It was an adventure gone wrong for two Dunedin teenagers this afternoon.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand and police were called to assist the two youths, who were stuck on the roof of a George St building.

A police spokeswoman said they were called to George St at 12.45pm, to a report that two children had climbed up on a roof and refused to come down.

She said the job was then updated to say the children were stuck.

"FENZ assisted us to get the children off the roof and they were taken home by police."

A reporter at the scene said two fire appliances and police were in attendance.

Firefighters grabbed a ladder and took it in to a garage leading to the back of buildings on Moray Pl.

The two youths were escorted out by police.
