Adam Wilson took the top spot in 2hr 01min 52sec — completing the full discipline.
He started off with the swim before a cycle section and final sprint.
"It was a little bit choppy with a southerly coming in.
"I just wanted to get on the bike and try to open up a big gap so I didn't have as much pressure on the run."
He was one of hundreds of athletes of all ages to compete in Queenstown yesterday.
The event had various disciplines, including Olympic and sprint triathlons, team events, duathlon and kids races.
Race organiser Adrian Bailey said it was a bonus to have them compete.
"These are very young, very talented athletes who represent New Zealand. It was great to have them on board today.
"That is the beauty of the race. We have these guys, along with lots of locals taking part, people on holiday ... It really is quite the mix and is a compliment to the event."
Close to 300 took part across the various races, he said.
