A Mt Maunganui robber was armed with a stun gun to raid a superette, Tauranga District Court was told today.
Charles Orr, 24, unemployed, who was appearing for sentencing, had pleaded guilty to charges of assault with intent to rob, assaulting a female and possession of a weapon.
According to police he had approached the owner of a superette on Maunganui Rd and demanded money.
The 50-year-old could see the stun gun arcing as Orr grabbed him. During a struggle, the weapon struck the victim on the arm causing a laceration.
When the man's wife tried to help her husband Orr pushed her away. The owner was shoved so hard against shelves that he fell to the ground.
Orr fled, chased by the shopkeeper and his teenage son. Two members of the public joined the chase to nearby rail yards, where police captured Orr.
Lawyer Tony Balme asked for sentencing to be delayed because there was a possibility of a restorative justice conference. Orr was anxious to meet with the victims if they were prepared to take part.
Judge Christopher Harding further remanded him on bail until September 10.
