Funds go to 'Camp Kurow'

Christchurch earthquake victims' families will benefit from about $4000 raised at an ecumenical church service held in the Oamaru Opera House in March and attended by between 400 and 500 people.

Some of the funds collected during the memorial service have been given to "Camp Kurow", to be held in the October school holidays for Christchurch families.

Representatives of the Oamaru Ministers' Association recently presented camp organisers Presbyterian Support Otago with $2500 to assist with the cost of running the week-long camp.

The remaining funds were distributed to Christchurch families who have settled in Oamaru.

Association chairwoman the Rev Nancy Parker said the donation was a tangible way to help some of those families still affected by the disaster.

Presbyterian Support Otago (PSO) staff and volunteers hosted two large groups of Christchurch families to a week each of rest and recreation at the Kurow Holiday Park in March.

Those two camps were such a success that Christchurch agencies had asked them to run a further camp in the October school holidays.
