The 130-year-old, single-lane wooden twin bridges across the Waitaki River between Kurow and Hakataramea on State Highway 82 will be discussed again at a public meeting in Kurow on September 12.
The Waimate District Council, which has formed a special committee to lobby for replacement of the bridges, has called the meeting to update the community on progress.
That follows concern replacing the bridges with two, two-lane concrete bridges estimated to cost $15 million, could be delayed beyond the projected opening date of 2014.
Waimate Mayor John Coles said the community was concerned funding and timeline commitments for building the new bridges could be delayed.
Progress was being made on the design and cost, but it was not known when funding would be available from the New Zealand Transport Agency to enable construction to start.
Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean and representatives from the transport agency will attend the meeting.
The bridges were closed for nine days early this year after flooding in the Waitaki River caused damage, and debris built up on piles.
