A boost of $30,000 has been given to the Fiordland Conservation Trust by its first principal patron, Fiordland Outdoors Co.

The funding will help the trust deliver conservation projects throughout Fiordland, Southland and the sub-Antarctic Islands.

Fiordland Outdoors co-owner Christine Wallace - a trustee for the conservation trust since 2015 - said the landscape of conservation was changing and when businesses aligned with social enterprise "we have the ability to make an impact".

The trust was funded by individual projects, making it a challenge to take a proactive approach to unexplored opportunities.

"[The] Fiordland Conservation Trust is vital here.

"Thanks to their actions, we have seen the establishment of a pest-eradication programme in Dusky Sound, the Anchor Island spotted kiwi sanctuary and the Sinbad Sanctuary in Milford Sound, to name just a few.

"With this injection of patronship funds, the trust becomes able to function nimbly on its own," Mrs Wallace said.

Trust chairman Murray Willans said the new funding would enable it to connect more people to conservation, do more to save endangered species and step up its contribution to caring for special places.

"The patronship contribution provides us with the ability to investigate new initiatives, grow our capability and ultimately, our overall conservation effort.

"We are excited about what this means for the future," he said.
