The eight Pioneer Energy Science and Technology Scholarships, awarded for the first time this year, were presented this week alongside 42 tertiary scholarships awarded by the Central Lakes Trust.
Pioneer Energy is 100% owned by the trust.
The 50 pupils, from five secondary schools, have each received scholarships worth $2500. One of the pupils won the $3000 Meyer Cruden Engineering Scholarship.
The scholarships are for pupils aged from 16 to 19 years and who have lived in the Central Lakes Trust region and were planning tertiary study.
Trust chief executive Susan Finlay said the scholarship programme had given out $1,176,500 to 484 pupils in the 13 years the scheme had been running.
