Racing: Miss Moonlite staying

Miss Moonlite, winner of an Australasian Breeders Crown consolation last Thursday, has remained in Melbourne for a race at Melton on Friday night.

"She is in a $20,000 race for 3yr-old fillies on Friday night and if she can win, she will have one more race before coming home," Andrew Stuart, her Rangiora trainer, said.

Stuart worked Miss Moonlite on Monday and left her in the care of driver John Caldow. He is back at Rangiora supervising the preparation of Mr Chrome for Addington on Friday night.

Miss Moonlite has now won seven races and over $70,000 for owner Shane Kirwan, of Sefton, who bought the daughter of Christian Cullen and Dancingonmoonlight for $25,000 at the 2009 Australasian Classic sale.

• Lord Forbes is set to resume racing at Gore on Sunday from a 30m handicap.

"He has come up quicker than I expected after being back in work for 10 weeks," Gavin Forbes, his Invercargill owner-trainer, said.

Lord Forbes ran second to Vi Et Animo in a 2200m workout at Ascot Park on Sunday.

The winner of 11 races, Lord Forbes was put aside after he bruised a hind suspensory ligament in the New Zealand Cup last November.

His best effort in seven starts in the spring was a second to Anvils Best Ever in the Tuapeka Cup at Forbury Park when the winner ran a track record of 3.59.7 for the 3200m. Lord Forbes started from 40m.

• Pinwheel emulated his sire, Lonhro, by winning the Warwick Stakes at Warwick Farm on Saturday, AAP reportsChampion Lonhro won the Warwick Stakes in 2001 and 2003. It was the biggest win for Pinwheel, who is trained by Peter Snowden.

"What a pleasure to have him in the stable," Snowden said.

"He's a really, really nice horse and very genuine.

"I must say, watching the race though, it wasn't the script we had written beforehand.

"We spoke about the race for three days and thought with the fitness edge we had on the others, we would take advantage of it. When he only had four behind him at the 700m, I thought, 'What's gone wrong here?"'

Having his first attempt at 1400m, Pinwheel got back to beyond midfield before improving on the home turn.

Kerrin McEvoy, who earlier teamed with Snowden to win the listed Show County Quality with Skytrain, produced Pinwheel on the outside and the gelding ran on strongly in the testing conditions to record his 10th win from 24 starts.

"We've always kept him at short trips over 1100 and 1200m but when you can get out over 1400, 1500 and a mile [1600m], it just opens up the door for a few more options for him," Snowden said.
