Hockey: 6-1 win moves University closer to final

University Blue and Albany A are a step closer to a premier men's hockey final rematch after two big wins on Saturday.

University Blue notched up an easy 6-1 victory over City Highlanders, but could have taken a bigger lead if it had capitalised on all the attacking play it made.

University scored a quick goal to Sundeep Naik 10 minutes into the game but it was matched straight away by City from a counterattack.

It did not take long for University to score again, this time from a burst of goals. Richard Story scored twice and Naik scored his second, taking University out to a three-goal lead.

Just before halftime University stretched its lead to four goals, making it very hard for City to come back.

The second half was a much more even game on the scoreboard, even with University having most of the possession, but City's defence held up against University's attack.

Nick Instone scored the only goal of the half with a great reverse-stick shot into the top corner of the net.

Albany got back to its winning ways after a loss and a draw in the previous weeks, beating Kings United 4-0 to go top of the table with University.
