There have been 87 crashes at the intersection since 2000, leaving 63 people with minor injuries and five with serious injuries.
The Connecting Dunedin transport partnership between the Dunedin City Council, NZ Transport Agency and Otago Regional Council is developing a business case of which funding for modifications to the intersection will be a part.
Solutions could include a truck ramp for vehicles with brake failure, traffic lights, or an overpass or underpass.
The NZTA said this week a completed programme business case with a preferred option was expected to be ready by about mid-next year.

What's so difficult about it?.
You stop at the stop sign, if you don't see a vehicle coming down the hill then you may proceed.
Stop means stop, it doesn't mean you can roll through, slow right down but your wheels are still turning or carry on through directly after the car ahead of you.
the difficult thing about it is poor visibility and speeding cars. You must not go through this intersection a lot other wise you'd know that.
An over/underpass is the perfect solution.
The problem with the stop sign is just that, it stops the flow of traffic on Gt King St, especially at peak hour in the evening.
