The Selwyn District Council undertook a review of the current bylaw and it has led to a number of proposed changes.
One of the amendments would see people no longer able to park their vehicle on the side of the road if it is displaying a ‘for sale’ sign,
In the current traffic and parking bylaw from 2009 you can do so with the consent of the district council.
A district council spokesman said it will enforce it by contacting people directly when it becomes aware of cases and inform them of the law.
He said people are generally compliant but if not there are provisions in the bylaw to address this and the council would consider its options.
Other changes include the provision of residents only parking areas in cases of need and the ban of parking on grass berms beyond a kerb or footpath in living zones.
Electric scooters have also been included in the amended bylaw.
The bylaw was adopted for public consultation at a district council meeting last week and residents can have their say on the amendments.
In a report presented to district councillors, transportation team leader Mark Chamberlain said there have been some issues arise during the time of the current bylaw and it is due to be reviewed.
Public consultation on the amended traffic and parking bylaw is open now and will close on October 18.
