One of the weapons 24-year-old Hori Gemmell is accused of stealing from police while they pursued him last month is still outstanding, police confirmed.
The defendant appeared in the Invercargill District Court by audio-visual link from prison yesterday, facing two counts of reckless driving, two of theft, two of unlawful possession of a pistol and one of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
No pleas were entered to the charges and no bail application was made.
Gemmell is alleged to have rammed a patrol car after police tried to pull him over in Gore on August 14.
Police said he then ran off, pursued by officers, who were also on foot.
While being chased, Gemmell allegedly circled back, stole their patrol car, which had the keys left inside, and rammed another police car in a bid to escape.
The vehicle was later found abandoned with two police-issued Glock pistols from the car's lock-box missing, each containing 17 9mm rounds.
Police recovered one of the pistols but the second one has not been located.
A spokeswomen said "inquiries are ongoing".
Gemmell was remanded in custody and will reappear in court on November 4.
