Plans for a new pool have been discussed for more than 10 years and a ballpark estimate for the project is up to $1.9million.
The existing pool was managed by the Central Otago District Council until 2013 and had been leased to Roxburgh Area School since then but was now timeworn, Teviot Valley Community Board chairman and pool committee member Raymond Gunn said.
The latest pool plans had included work on a section of land owned by the Ministry of Education, on which the existing learners' pool and green space was situated. Subdivision and a land transfer of the site would have been required for the new proposed pool complex.
But it was possible it would take up to two years for the transfer to be resolved, and pool working committee members investigated alternative options, Mr Gunn said.
A solution had now been found, in which the Central Otago District Council would "give" the pool a portion of unformed legal road in Cheviot Rd, on to which the existing pool had frontage. The road reserve would be amalgamated with the existing council freehold land, on which the main pool and changing rooms sit.
Mr Gunn said dealing with the ministry over the issue had been "problematic and costly" and the solution proposed by council was "going to be a cheaper approach".
The community board had also voted recently to pay for the estimated $7000 costs of the road reserve land transfer, he said.
The next stage of the project was to get detailed designs done. The design costs were previously estimated at about $129,000, but a revised estimate for the plans on the reconfigured land was now being sought, Mr Gunn said.
The pool group had about $58,000 towards the design work so far, and was exploring funding options for the rest of the design costs, he said.
