More than 50 speeding drivers have been caught over three days during a campaign against speeding conducted by Oamaru police.
Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy said the two-week campaign, which began on Monday, was in the North Otago area from Palmerston to Omarama, aimed at bringing home to drivers the dangers of speeding.
All staff not on other assignments in North Otago were out on rural and urban roads checking vehicle speeds within the normal tolerances.
Up until Thursday morning, 51 infringement notices had been issued by police, although none were 41kmh or more over the speed limit, at which point the driver's licence was suspended.
Police were using both marked and unmarked patrol cars in the campaign.
"The campaign is focusing on speed to reduce road trauma," Snr Sgt McCoy said.
