Richard Cully is hoping he has made the right choice when he rides Karlos in the Hawke's Bay Hurdles at Hastings tomorrow.
Cully could have continued his association with Harvest The Gold after finishing third in the Awapuni Hurdles.
"It was a hard choice," Tully said.
Karlos won the Waikato Hurdles on May 21 in the hands of Lance Macfarlane.
Cully rode Karlos to finish second in a highweight at Pukekohe at his subsequent start. He also rides Karlos in work at Cambridge.
Macfarlane has gained the ride on Big Brownie, runner-up to Mount Sinai in the Ken Browne Hurdles at Ellerslie last month. Macfarlane is the replacement for Richard Eynon. Trainer Mark Oulaghan has yet to find a replacement for Cody Singer, who was to ride Harvest The Gold.
Eynon and Singer are required to stand down for three weeks after sustaining concussion in falls at Oamaru yesterday.
Isaac Lupton has replaced Eynon on Tobouggie Nights in the Hawke's Bay Steeples and Whisper To Me in the maiden steeples. Yourtheman, winner of the HB Steeples last year, and Climbing High, the 2009 winner, are in the field tomorrow.
