Ohau Snow Fields has put back the opening of its skifield by a week, but owner Mike Neilson is confident it will be ready by July 1.
Just as on other Southern skifields, a lack of snow is causing headaches, with some predicting the latest opening to this season for 50 years.
Ohau had been due to start up its lifts today but now says it will open on Friday.
Before installing automated snow-making machines four seasons ago, the skifield usually did not open until the second or third week of July.
Mr Neilson said the snow machines were "flat out" making snow for the opening and already one trail was skiable.
By July 1, weather permitting, the main trail would be ready for skiers and boarders.
"It's looking good for opening on July 1," he said.
