The tiny district was proud to have a special newcomer to its service, a "brand new'' New Zealand flag for Anzac Day, Cromwell Community Board member and Tarras resident Annabel Blaikie said.
The investment had arisen from last year's Anzac service, when residents were dismayed to realise how ``tatty'' the flag raised for the service was, Ms Blaikie said.
She spoke to "the good people at the Central Otago District Council'' and a new flag was bought..
It would be raised for the first time at this week's service at the Tarras Community Centre, Mrs Blaikie said.
About 70 people have attended the service each year since it was reinstated about 10 years ago by Tarras resident Spin Lucas.
Mrs Lucas said it was a privilege to honour the district's residents and war service.
As well as the new flag being flown, she was looking over to "something else special'' in the skies above Tarras on Anzac Day.
A flyover of Tiger Moths was planned for the Tarras service, and it was thought one of the planes would be flown by Daniel Perriam, of Bendigo, Mrs Lucas said.
Mr Perriam last year flew one of three Tiger Moths that did a flyover for the Lowburn Anzac service.
The plane he flew was a Perriam family heirloom.
