More tourism businesses are coming to Palmerston to cater for an increase in passenger numbers on the Seasider tourist train.
New businesses are being planned by Christchurch entrepreneur David Cone for visitors on the trains, which will run twice weekly from October to April 2009.
Attractions are likely to include a craft market and sheep-shearing demonstrations.
Mr Cone has been in discussions with Palmer-ston businesses and community groups over the past few months, as well as the Taieri Gorge Railway, which runs the Seasider train.
It is understood arrangements have been made to use two buildings in Palmerston for new tourism activities. An extra out-of-season Seasider train ran to Palmerston on Saturday due to the temporary closure of the Taieri Gorge line by three slips and a rockfall.
