Driver's 100kmh in George St 'ludicrous'

Dunedin police nabbed a driver allegedly travelling at twice the speed limit through the city yesterday while more than three times the legal breath alcohol limit.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said the man was spotted driving his Toyota Caldina at 100kmh in the north end of George St about 8pm.

"That's just ludicrous, especially in town at the weekend.''

Officers activated their flashing lights, and while it initially appeared he was not stopping, he soon pulled over near Warrender St.

The 26-year-old blew a breath alcohol reading of 848mcg, more than three times the legal limit of 250mcg.
