The Mill domain on the northern edge of Palmerston now appears to be the favoured site for a dump station, with little public objection to date.
A previous preference by the Waitaki District Council for one in Goodwood Rd was opposed by 68 Palmerston residents.
Six other dump station sites in Palmerston have been investigated and discarded in favour of the Mill domain site.
The Goodwood Rd residents were concerned about proximity to nearby houses and businesses, limited turning space on a narrow 100kmh road and the council’s failure to initially consult residents in the area.
A Waitaki District Council report released on Tuesday described the Mill domain as flat and "easily accessible".
The council would need an additional $40,000 for the additional pump and pipework infrastructure on top of a grant of $58,000 from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
A report will be made to the Waihemo Community Board and the Waitaki District Council.
Subject to approval by the Waitaki District Council and approval of the necessary consents and plans, work on the Mill Rd dump station site would be scheduled for about mid-2019.
