Crown Range Rd warning after crashes

Police are warning motorists on the Crown Range Road to take care after three crashes in bad weather today.

The road linking Queenstown and Wanaka was very wet and slippery and there had been three incidents at one corner, about 300 metres north of the scenic lookout, since 2pm, police advised.

No injuries were reported.

In the latest incident, the Queenstown Lakes District Council said about 5.40pm it received reports that a car had rolled about 2km from the summit on the Queenstown side and was blocking one lane.

Road users were urged to take extra care and drive to the conditions.

Earlier today, the New Zealand Transport Agency issued a caution for motorists using SH6 between Queenstown and Lumsden, as wild weather continued to batter parts of the country.

Surface water had pooled in the southbound lane near the Oxford St intersection, it said.
