Nationwide firm Dominion Constructors Ltd was ordered to fix some problems relating to the building, which is part of the Queenstown Central shopping centre being built on the Frankton Flats, by the Queenstown Lakes District Council last month.
It was previously announced the mega-store would open on Thursday.
Stuff reported Kmart country manager Jason Picard confirmed the store will now open to customers on October 18.
Council spokesman Campbell Weal said Dominion and Queenstown Central ``fully complied with the notice'' and approval was given for remedial works to begin the week before last. The council would not provide details of the issues investigated.
The $100 million first stage of the project will see 45 tenants, including the Kmart store, be spread across four buildings.
The planned 4000sqm Kmart store will join other big names in the shopping centre, including Kiwibank, Spark, Vodafone and 2degrees.
Queenstown Central spokesman Simon Holloway said time had been lost over the last couple of weeks as a result of snow and rain, which delayed the shopping centre's car park and road sealing plans. Mr Holloway said that was ``now on track and progressing well''.
