The fundraiser held at Tonic bar last night was one of six held in bars throughout New Zealand last night, organised by the New Zealand Brewers Guild, and in Dunedin by Mr King, following last week's earthquake.

Proceeds from raffles or auctions held at the bars would support Red Cross New Zealand earthquake relief efforts in Christchurch, Mr King said.

Prizes had been donated by New Zealand brewers, together with some proceeds from bars, and similar events were also held in Australian cities Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, Mr King said.

Other fundraising activities were also in full swing in Dunedin last night. Red Cross collectors were out in force and at least one bar - Alibi in the Octagon - added a 10% surcharge to raise money for earthquake relief efforts.
