The judges were taken around the city yesterday as part of the deliberations in the competition, for which Dunedin is one of two finalists, alongside Hutt City.
The award is based on factors including heritage restoration, recycling and waste management, ecotourism, and litter prevention.
Ms King said in her short time in Dunedin it seemed to her the city had a great balance of heritage and future vision.
The winner will be announced in Auckland on October 27.
