'All Shook Up' cast decided

Queenstown local Emily Burns will take one of the lead roles in Showbiz Queenstown's May production All Shook Up.

Showbiz Queenstown president Alex Derbie said he was "delighted" with the turnout for auditions held recently.

Burns will play the role of Natalie, opposite professional piano player and singer James Stephenson, as Chad.

All Shook Up tells what happens in 1950 when a motorcycling leather-clad, guitar-playing roustabout rides into a small midwest town that is mired in ethnic and social class distinction.

It is a musical of true rock'n'roll character, from the pen of the award-winning creator of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.

Mr Derbie said 26 Elvis hits had been woven into the storyline as youth and adults sing of and aspire to love, or rue lost opportunity, with songs including Jailhouse Rock, Heartbreak Hotel, One Night With You, It's Now or Never, Love Me Tender, Blue Suede Shoes, Devil in Disguise, Can't Help Falling In Love and All Shook Up.

The show will be directed by Bryan Aitken, of Christchurch.
