The Taieri Community Facilities Trust has raised about $2.92 million for a new aquatic facility in the township.
Trust chairwoman Irene Mosley said the fundraising campaign was still attracting private donations both large and small.
The latest large donation came from the Mosgiel bench-top company O’Brien Group, which gave the trust $60,000.
"They’ve been fantastic and given us $60,000 and we also got a good donation from the Alexander McMillan Trust which has taken us past the $2.9 million mark," Mrs Mosley said.
Staff at the Dunedin City Council were working through the planning processes which needed to be completed before any construction on the facility could start, she said. The city council has committed to spending $10.8 million on the pool if the trust raises $3.2 million.
But the trust aims to raise $5 million so a substantial facility, with at least an eight-lane pool and room for a dedicated learners’ pool, a spa and hydrotherapy pool, can be built.
