Inspired by the Gold Coast's "meter maids", Melbourne's mobile masseuses and a Thai beachside rubdown, Queens- town's Jodie Adams (27) took just an hour to come up with the Maid to Massage concept.

"It's naughty but nice ... but I didn't want it to be too raunchy, I just thought the name was nice and I pictured it in my head," Ms Adams, who hails from Yorkshire, said.

Running since December, the tactile troubadours are Queenstown's only pay-what-you-want five-minute mobile massage service.

Ms Adams employs four other "maids" who circulate around 12 of the resort's bars from Thursday to Sunday night.

"I literally thought of it in about an hour.

"I told my sister about it and she thought it was a great idea - now she thinks she's entitled to 25% of all the profits ..."

When she floated the idea to bars, "some people thought it was a little strange".

But after a test run, the service began to blossom.

"As soon as someone at a table says 'this is brilliant', you can pretty much guarantee everyone else will want one too."

Ms Adams said $50 was the biggest payment for a massage while 20c was the smallest.

"We didn't like him very much ... but there really is no pressure.

"People say, 'What should we pay?' But it's completely up to you. We smile, no matter what."
