Organised by the Friendly Bay Boat Society, which has its own boat shed in Tyne St, the event will be based at Friendly Bay from 9am, with boat races, live music, coffee, hot food and picnics on the old Friendly Bay Carnival ground.
Organiser Mike Harris said yesterday the event was "a family-friendly day" and would include a sand castle competition, bathing belles (men and women in novelty and old costumes), sailing dinghy races, rowing races and the Seagull outboard race.
A mixture of classic and traditional boats will compete, along with Scott's Own Sea Scouts in sailing cutters.
Entries for all events are still being taken and Mr Harris also appealed for volunteers to help out.
The society, which had "about a dozen or so members", took over organising the regatta after last year's event and opening its boat shed.
