The body of a young Christchurch man has been flown home from Thailand after he died in a scooter accident on January 2, Stuff reports.
The Canterbury-based family of Nicholas McCutcheon, 20, will hold a funeral in Rangiora on Friday.
Stuff reported The Cairns Post as saying that McCutcheon, who grew up in Townsville, Australia, sustained severe head injuries after crashing his rented scooter on January 2 while on holiday with friends from the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
He died in hospital three days later.
McCutcheon's mother Denise told The Cairns Post her family was mourning the loss of "the most wonderful son".
"It was a privilege to have known him for the 20 years of his life," she said.
She said her son was knocked unconscious in the accident.
