Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old man in connection with a series of arsons in the town last week.
Several fires, including in a boat, a shed and a dog basket, were lit at two properties on Tokoiti Rd early on Christmas Eve.
Fuel was poured over several vehicles, but not lit, an old garage was burned down and police believed other suspicious fires last week were related to the Christmas Eve incidents.
Constable Brian McKinney, of Milton, said police arrested the man on Monday, after searching his home on Boxing Day and finding clothing and other items they were seeking in relation to the fires.
He said the man was known to police and confirmed he had committed similar offending in the past.
The man was remanded in police custody when he appeared before justices of the peace in the Dunedin District Court yesterday.
He will reappear for a bail hearing today.
Police would be opposing bail.
Const McKinney said it was likely further charges would be laid.
