A contractor repositions rocks against the sea wall at St Clair on Saturday.

Dunedin City Council transport delivery manager Josh von Pein said the work was done to give greater protection to the  Esplanade.

Mr von Pein said sand levels at the Esplanade were low following recent high tides and storms, so rocks were re-positioned to provide greater protection from waves.

A spotter was on site to guide people around the work site.

The work cost about $2500.
